The Moen 1222 is the replacement cartridge for single-handle Moen tub-and-shower valves built around the Posi-Temp pressure-balancing anti-scald system — the most common single-handle shower valve installed in U.S. homes since the early 1990s.
If your shower drips from the head when it is shut off, the water temperature drifts hot or cold during a shower, or the handle has become hard to turn, this cartridge is the usual fix.
Tools: the Moen 104421 cartridge-puller tool is highly recommended (the cartridge bonds to the valve body over time), plus a Phillips screwdriver and needle-nose pliers. Plan on 30-45 minutes for a first-time replacement, and confirm your valve is a Posi-Temp before ordering.
