Description
The P-trap is the curved pipe under a sink that holds a plug of water to keep sewer gas out of the house. Over time it degrades, develops leaks at the slip-joint connections, or fills with hair and gunk that slows the drain. The Oatey 42057 is a standard 1-1/2 inch white PVC P-trap to replace it.
It fits the standard 1-1/2 inch drain size used on most kitchen and bathroom sinks, and swapping a trap is one of the most common DIY plumbing jobs.
Tools: channel-lock pliers, and a bucket to catch the standing water in the old trap when you loosen it. It is a straightforward repair for a first-timer.
