Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-11

This is the privacy policy for Plumbing By The Book (plumbingbythebook.com). It explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over your data. We’ve tried to write it in plain English. If something here is unclear, email us and we’ll explain.

Who we are

Plumbing By The Book is a content site about plumbing repair, owned and operated by Jayson Kwan (California, USA). Reachable at ibbjayson@gmail.com.

What we collect

There are three places where data about you ends up with us.

Email signups. When you give us your email address — usually by downloading a lead magnet or subscribing to the weekly digest — we collect that email and any name you provide. We use Kit (formerly ConvertKit) to manage email subscriptions, so the data lives in Kit’s systems as well as ours.

Server logs. Like every website on the internet, our server records basic information about each request: your IP address, the page you visited, your browser type, and the time of the request. This is automatic and unavoidable. We use this data only to understand traffic patterns and to investigate problems if something breaks.

Cookies and analytics. We use cookies to keep the site working (for example, remembering whether you’ve dismissed a popup) and to understand traffic patterns through analytics tools. We use Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies and reports anonymized usage data to Google. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using their browser plugin (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) or by blocking cookies in your browser.

We do NOT collect: payment information (we have no storefront yet), Social Security numbers, government IDs, health information, or any sensitive personal data.

How we use it

Email addresses are used to send you the emails you signed up for — lead magnet delivery, the welcome sequence, the weekly digest. We don’t sell email lists, we don’t share them with affiliates, we don’t trade them. If you reply to one of our emails, the reply goes to ibbjayson@gmail.com where a real human reads it.

Server logs and analytics are used to understand which articles get read, where traffic comes from, and to fix performance problems. The data is aggregated and not used to identify individual readers.

We do NOT use your information to: – Build advertising profiles about you – Sell to third parties – Inform any algorithmic decision that affects you outside this website – Cross-reference with social media profiles

Who we share it with

We share data only with the service providers that help us run the site. Currently:

  • Kit (ConvertKit) — handles email subscriptions and delivery. Their privacy policy: https://kit.com/privacy
  • Google Analytics — handles traffic analytics. Their privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
  • Hostinger — hosts the website. Their privacy policy: https://www.hostinger.com/privacy-policy
  • Cloudflare (if active for the domain) — handles content delivery and basic security. Their privacy policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/

These providers are bound by their own privacy obligations and don’t have permission to use your data for purposes beyond what they do for us.

We don’t share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies. We’re a content site funded by future product sales — not advertising. That fundamentally limits how much we benefit from collecting data about you, which is part of why this policy is short.

How long we keep it

Email subscribers — your email stays in Kit until you unsubscribe. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom; click it and you’re removed within 24 hours.

Server logs — typically retained for 30-90 days depending on the hosting environment, then automatically rotated out.

Analytics data — Google Analytics retains aggregated data for 14 months by default, after which it’s automatically deleted.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights over your data. The two frameworks most likely to apply:

California (CCPA/CPRA). California residents have the right to: – Know what personal information we collect about them – Request deletion of personal information – Opt out of any “sale” of personal information (we don’t sell data, so this is moot — but the right exists) – Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights

EU/UK (GDPR/UK-GDPR). EU and UK residents have the right to: – Access the personal data we hold about them – Correct inaccurate data – Request deletion (“right to be forgotten”) – Object to processing or restrict how we process it – Receive a copy of their data in a portable format – Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, email ibbjayson@gmail.com with the request. We respond within 30 days. You don’t need to use any specific language — “delete my data” is enough.

Children’s privacy

This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you’re a parent or guardian and you believe your child has signed up for our email list, email us and we’ll remove the data immediately.

Cookies in detail

The cookies set by this site fall into three categories:

Strictly necessary — these keep the site working. Things like session tokens for WordPress, content delivery cookies from Cloudflare. You can’t disable these without breaking the site.

Analytics — Google Analytics sets cookies to track aggregate traffic. You can opt out via the browser plugin linked above, or by setting your browser to reject third-party cookies.

No advertising cookies. We don’t run advertising on this site, so we don’t set any advertising tracking cookies.

How we secure it

Reasonable, industry-standard practices: encrypted connections (HTTPS) site-wide, hosting on a reputable provider, no storage of payment data on our infrastructure, password-protected admin access. We’re not certified to any specific security standard because we don’t yet handle data that warrants it.

No security is perfect. If we discover a breach that affects you, we’ll notify you within the timeline required by applicable law (72 hours under GDPR; reasonable promptness elsewhere).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves — for example, when we add a storefront, the policy will expand to cover order history and payment processing. When that happens, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will also be announced in the weekly digest. Continuing to use the site after a change means you’ve accepted it.
