Store-Brand Faucet Cartridge: Finding the Part When the Brand Belongs to the Store

A ceramic faucet cartridge held next to a ruler and a model number tag, illustrating how to find a store-brand faucet cartridge

Your faucet drips, and the only name on it is Glacier Bay, Pegasus, AquaSource, Project Source or allen + roth. There is no maker to call and no parts catalog to open. Finding the right store-brand faucet cartridge works by a different route than for a maker-branded faucet: you trace the store’s own model number, item number or service-part number, and you let that number, not the brand, pick the part. This page walks through where to find that number, what real replacement numbers look like, and what to do when there is no number at all.

Why the Brand Name Does Not Settle the Part

A store-brand name is a retailer label. According to Home Depot, Glacier Bay is a Home Depot product line, and Glacier Bay replacement-part questions go to Glacier Bay Customer Service (Home Depot: Glacier Bay customer service).

Lowe’s lines work the same way. AquaSource manuals state that AquaSource is a registered trademark of LF, LLC, and Project Source manuals say the Project Source mark is a trademark or registered trademark of LF, LLC (AquaSource installation guide, Project Source Tucker manual). Lowe’s ties parts to its own item numbers, faucet model numbers and PartsPlus support.

The research did not find a public, model-by-model history of who built each store-brand line. So do not assume one brand means one cartridge family. The reliable identifiers are the faucet model number, the store’s item or SKU number, a service-part number, the manual’s parts table and, only when those fail, a physical match.

Method 1: Find the Store’s Model or Item Number

Start with paper. Check the manual first, then the original box, then the store receipt or online order history. In the AquaSource paper manuals the research reviewed, the item and model numbers sit on the cover and the replacement-cartridge table is near the back. One AquaSource widespread lavatory guide lists Item #0386619 and #0386621 with Model #67307-5001 and #67307-5004 (AquaSource widespread guide).

Next, look for a tag. According to one Home Depot service-parts PDF, the faucet ID tag is found by removing the hot water handle, and the sheet lists Cartridge H RP20079 and Cartridge C RP20080 (service-parts PDF, RP20079/RP20080). Another Home Depot service-parts PDF says the ID tag is on the hot water inlet and lists cartridge RP20005 (service-parts PDF, RP20005). So check under the sink, on the supply or inlet lines, and under the handles. Our guide to where the model number is on a faucet covers the general hunt.

The retailers list numbers in different ways:

  • Home Depot product pages show an Internet number, a model number and a Store SKU. The Glacier Bay Faucet Cartridge Assembly 864680 is Internet #318490033, Model #864680 and Store SKU #1006879697 (Home Depot: 864680).
  • Lowe’s pairs item numbers with model numbers. An AquaSource wall-mount high-arc kitchen faucet is Item #638283, Model #3192-K820-AS (Lowe’s: AquaSource 3192-K820-AS).
  • Project Source manuals map item numbers to models. The Tucker pull-down kitchen faucet manual lists Item #0831710, #0831709, #0921987 and #1288579 against models 51-K814-PS-BN, 51-K814-PS-WH, 51-K814-PS-CP and 51-K814-PS-MB.

Write down every number you find. Any one of them can unlock a listing.

Store-Brand Faucet Cartridge: Real Part Numbers by Brand

Each row below comes from the retailer’s own listing, manual or parts list. The chart narrows the field. It is not a promise of fit, so match your faucet’s model or item number to the “what it covers” column.

Found your store's model or part number in a row above? Confirm it against the listing before you buy, because a brand name alone does not pick the cartridge:

As an Amazon Associate, plumbingbythebook earns from qualifying purchases. Links below are affiliate links — they cost you nothing extra.

Note the Glacier Bay rows from RP90097 to RP90115. They look alike on a shelf, yet two share a 35 mm body with different stem sizes, and two share a 25 mm body with different stem sizes. Diameter alone is not enough.

Aftermarket cartridges sold “for” a store brand

Aftermarket makers also list cartridges for these brands. Treat each as model-specific.

Aftermarket part What the maker’s page says Source
Danco 89902 (GB-1) AquaSource and Glacier Bay single-handle faucets; Glacier Bay bathroom models 169-640, 704-612 and 704-615; 1.37 in. outer diameter, 2.34 in. long Danco
Danco 10670 AquaSource and Glacier Bay single-handle pressure-balance tub and shower faucets; 4.19 in. high, 1.56 in. wide Danco
Danco 89932 Glacier Bay, AquaSource and Pegasus single-handle faucets; 3.95 in. long Danco, Home Depot
Danco 10321 Home Depot’s page says it replaces Glacier Bay OEM numbers 873-9004, 873-0127H2, 873-0004, 873-7096, 876-6004 and 873-6001 Home Depot
Danco 10323 hot, 10324 cold 3Z-16H hot stem and its cold counterpart for Glacier Bay and Pegasus faucets Danco hot, Danco cold
Kissler 46-9566 Listed as a Glacier Bay cartridge Kissler, SupplyHouse

Pegasus RP20006 needs care. The Pegasus manual is the source for RP20006. Do not read Danco 89932 as the RP20006 equivalent, because no source reviewed ties the two together.

Hot, Cold and Single-Handle Cartridges

Two-handle cartridges and stems are often handed, so hot and cold are separate parts. The chart shows the pairs: RP 01408SP and RP 01409SP, RP20013 and RP20014, RP20115 and RP20116. Do not swap sides without confirming rotation.

Single-handle cartridges are a different case, but they are not universal either. They remain model-specific, so match the faucet model, not just the shape.

Method 2: Match the Pulled Cartridge by Hand

If no number survives, match the part itself. Shut off the under-sink supply first. Danco’s instructions for 89902 say to take the old cartridge to a home-improvement store and use the Danco Perfect Match locator system, or use its online Stem Finder (Danco: 89902, Danco: find parts).

A ceramic faucet cartridge photographed from the side, showing its length and the base with locating tabs

Photograph the cartridge from several angles first, and note the orientation of each tab. Then compare length, body diameter, the stem or broach, the ports, the locating tabs or flats, and the hot or cold side for two-handle faucets. Danco’s instructions say to align the cartridge’s tabs or pegs with the notches or holes in the faucet body. Sourced sizes help but do not settle it: Danco 89902 is 1.37 in. across and 2.34 in. long, while Danco 10670 is 4.19 in. high. Bring the cartridge to the counter, not a photo.

According to Danco, mineral buildup should be cleaned off and the valve body and cartridge rubber parts lubricated with silicone grease, and damaged rubber seals that cannot be cleaned may need replacement. Moen’s guidance says not to use petroleum-containing lubricants, which can react with rubber seals (Moen: handle is difficult to operate).

On a shower valve, follow the valve manual, and professional opinions vary on some steps. A Project Source tub and shower manual says that if you solder connections, the cartridge and integral stops must come out to avoid heat damage and go back only after the valve cools. It also says reversed hot and cold can come from reversed lines or an upside-down cartridge, fixed by rotating the stem 180 degrees so the notch faces the drain. It describes setting the red stop to cap water at 120°F (Project Source F1A1F506CP manual).

Calling the Store’s Parts Line and the Warranty

Have your model or item number and your proof of purchase ready before you call.

  • Glacier Bay: 1-855-434-5224, or Home Depot support at 1-800-466-3337. Home Depot’s page says a warranty claim needs the original sales receipt and that defective products or parts may be replaced free of charge under the applicable warranty. It excludes incidental or consequential damages and failures from misuse, abuse or normal wear.
  • AquaSource: 1-866-417-7564. The AquaSource 64188 manual warrants faucet parts against leaks or drips in domestic use by the original purchaser, excludes commercial or business use, and requires a copy of the receipt. Removal and installation costs stay with the purchaser (AquaSource 64188 manual).
  • Project Source: 1-866-389-8827, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST, Monday through Sunday, or partsplus@lowes.com, per its Tucker manual (Project Source Tucker manual).
  • allen + roth: 866-439-9800 or partsplus@lowes.com, per its 67692W manual (allen + roth 67692W manual).
  • Pegasus: according to an older Pegasus manual, 1-877-580-5682, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST. Treat that number as possibly dated.

Do not count on a free cartridge. The support line may supply a part under warranty when the purchaser and the use qualify.

If You Still Cannot Tell

A lookup can succeed while the buying path fails. In the chart above, the Lowe’s pages for Project Source RP20013 and RP20014 (hot, cold), Project Source RP20123 (Lowe’s), allen + roth RP20115 and RP20116 (hot, cold) and allen + roth RP20124 (Lowe’s) are marked no longer sold. They still show which cartridge went with which faucet, so use them to identify the part, then buy from an aftermarket maker or a plumbing counter.

Our own suggestion, not a source’s: before assuming an old Glacier Bay or Pegasus valve is dead, check the aftermarket listings in the chart above and ask at a local plumbing counter. If the exact cartridge cannot be identified from records, support, those catalogs, a reliable counter match or a plumber’s local source, replacing the faucet or valve may be the practical answer. That is our inference. No source says every unsupported store-brand faucet must be replaced. If the valve sits inside a wall, call a plumber before cutting into it.

What to Do Next

Collect the model, item and SKU numbers, call the store’s parts line with proof of purchase, and check the chart above. For the wider picture, see our faucet repair hub, or try the faucet cartridge finder.

Does the store brand tell me which cartridge I need?

No. The brand names the retailer, not the part. The store’s model, item or service-part number is the lookup key.

Where is the model number on a Glacier Bay faucet?

According to two Home Depot service-parts PDFs, the faucet ID tag is found by removing the hot water handle on one faucet (service-parts PDF, RP20079/RP20080) and on the hot water inlet on another (service-parts PDF, RP20005). Also check the manual, box, receipt or order history.

Is Danco 89932 the replacement for Pegasus RP20006?

Not on the evidence reviewed. Check any aftermarket listing against your own Pegasus part number before you buy.

Can I swap the hot and cold cartridges in a two-handle faucet?

Not without confirming rotation and side, because two-handle cartridges are often handed. Single-handle cartridges may be non-handed but are still model-specific.

What if the cartridge is listed as no longer sold?

The page can still identify the part. Our suggestion is then to check the aftermarket listings in the chart above and ask at a plumbing counter.
