Harvey 1/2-Inch PTFE Thread Seal Tape (Teflon Tape)

Description

Harvey 1/2-inch white PTFE thread seal tape — commonly called Teflon tape — is the everyday sealant for threaded plumbing connections: shower arms, water supply lines, hose bibs, anywhere two threaded metal pipes meet. The 520-inch roll is enough for dozens of joints.

To use it, wrap 3 to 4 turns around the male threads in the direction of tightening (so the tape does not unwind as you screw the joint together) before assembling. Wrapping the correct way is the detail most first-timers get backwards. It is cheap insurance against the threaded-joint leaks that are easy to prevent and annoying to chase down later.

One caution: do not use white PTFE tape on gas lines — those require the thicker yellow gas-rated tape. For everyday water connections, though, this roll is the single most reached-for sealant in any plumbing kit, and the 520-inch length means you are unlikely to run out mid-job.
